Jim Arrington: the oldest male bodybuilder

Jim Arrington, who was born in 1932, explains that his fitness journey didn’t begin with him having a natural talent for weightlifting. On the contrary he has been working hard his whole life, and just never stopped.

One day, inspired by bodybuilding magazines he’d read, he ordered a 25-cent booklet full of exercises. Initially, he did it just to impress the ladies. “I decided that I was interested in girls around this time, and working out would be helpful in that department!” he explained.

Since then, Jim Arrington has competed in over 60 competitions in his lifetime, winning 16. At 83, he is still actively competing in competitions and he entered the Guinness World Records 2018 edition as the world’s oldest male bodybuilder.

Nicknamed Skinny Bones when he was younger, this retired sales and purchasing professional has been bodybuilding for the last 70 years.

To achieve his body goals, he sticks to a high protein, moderate carbohydrate and fat regimen.

“Bodybuilding is hard work! You need to set goals, but most of all, you need to love the training. No bodybuilder is satisfied with how they look. If you want to compete, compete! If you don’t, you never will”, he added.

“Gaining a Guinness World Records title must therefore, be 100 times better! My friends and family are all delighted. Everyone wants to be photographed with the certificate! (…) To all those dreaming of a Guinness World Records title in their future: I say GO FOR IT!”
