Giusi CORDORELLI
Director of Biomedical Research and Innovation at the Italian Ministry of Health Directrice de la recherche biomédicale et de l’innovation au ministère italien de la Santé
Giusi Condorelli currently serves as Director of the Office for the Internationalization and Promotion of Research Infrastructures within the General Directorate of Research and Innovation at the Italian Ministry of Health. In this role, she leads strategic initiatives to strengthen Italy’s global engagement in health research, foster international collaborations, and promote excellence in scientific infrastructure.
She previously served as Science Attaché for Health at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C., where she advanced bilateral cooperation in public health and research, promoted scientific innovation, and strengthened international engagement through science diplomacy.
Prior to that, she was Health Attaché at the Embassy of Italy in Beijing, where she played a pivotal role in managing health diplomacy efforts, including during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. A physician by training, Dr. Condorelli is specialized in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy.
Prior to her diplomatic assignments, she spent 17 years at the Italian Ministry of Health, where she held key responsibilities in shaping national health policy and advancing public health programs, with a particular focus on travel medicine, occupational health, and the health and safety of maritime and aviation personnel.
Giusi Condorelli occupe actuellement le poste de directrice du Bureau de l’internationalisation et de la promotion des infrastructures de recherche au sein de la Direction générale de la recherche et de l’innovation du ministère italien de la Santé. À ce titre, elle dirige des initiatives stratégiques visant à renforcer l’engagement mondial de l’Italie dans la recherche en santé, à favoriser les collaborations internationales et à promouvoir l’excellence en matière d’infrastructures scientifiques.
Elle a auparavant occupé le poste d’attachée scientifique pour la santé à l’ambassade d’Italie à Washington, D.C., où elle a fait progresser la coopération bilatérale en matière de santé publique et de recherche, encouragé l’innovation scientifique et renforcé l’engagement international par le biais de la diplomatie scientifique. Avant cela, elle était attachée à la santé à l’ambassade d’Italie à Pékin, où elle a joué un rôle central dans la gestion des efforts de diplomatie sanitaire, notamment lors des premières phases de la pandémie de COVID-19.
Médecin de formation, Mme Condorelli est spécialisée en gastro-entérologie et en endoscopie digestive. Avant ses missions diplomatiques, elle a passé 17 ans au ministère italien de la Santé, où elle a assumé des responsabilités clés dans l’élaboration de la politique nationale de santé et la promotion des programmes de santé publique, en mettant particulièrement l’accent sur la médecine des voyages, la santé au travail, ainsi que la santé et la sécurité du personnel maritime et aéronautique.
