Wellness<\/h2>\n<p>Although below the regional average, <strong>the longevity and healthy life expectancy of Brazilians have increased significantly over the past decade<\/strong>, partly thanks to the improvements in the country\u2019s healthcare system.<\/p>\n<p>By introducing a dual healthcare system in 1988, <strong>Brazil guaranteed the right to free healthcare for all citizens through the Unified Health System (SUS) and allowed for the parallel existence of a private healthcare system.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-29717\" src=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Healthy-life-expectancy-and-life-expectancy-Brazil.png\" alt=\"Healthy life expectancy and life expectancy - Brazil\" width=\"323\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Healthy-life-expectancy-and-life-expectancy-Brazil.png 642w, https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Healthy-life-expectancy-and-life-expectancy-Brazil-300x191.png 300w, https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Healthy-life-expectancy-and-life-expectancy-Brazil-600x382.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/>However, major gaps exist when it comes to older citizens in both medical and long-term care. To address this, <strong>the government is working to address the needs of older patients<\/strong> while also improving the broader Brazilian healthcare system.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cadre\">\n<h4>Well-Cared-For Elderly Project (Projeto Idoso Bem Cuidado)<\/h4>\n<p>The National Agency of Supplementary Health (ANS) launched a pilot called the \u201cWell-Cared-For Elderly Project\u201d in 2016.
