Dietl<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Peter Haan, who is working for DIW in Germany, confirms: <strong>poverty among elderly is more and more widespread in the country,<\/strong> and the number of poor seniors is likely to significantly raise in the next 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas elderly join migrants at the <strong>Tafel<\/strong> place (the German equivalent of the &#8220;Restos du Coeur&#8221; in France), it is just the beginning: according to this study, by 2036, one 67-year-old senior out of five will be threaten by poverty.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cadre\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Read also:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/in-germany-the-elderly-live-through-increasing-poverty\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">In Germany, the elderly live through increasing poverty<\/a><\/em><\/div>\n<h2>The radical reform of the retirement system, a reason of the German elderly&#8217;s poverty ?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-29671 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Poverty-300x125.jpg\" alt=\"Poverty - No more money\" width=\"300\" height=\"125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Poverty-300x125.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Poverty-600x250.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Poverty.jpg 748w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Amongst all the reasons mentioned, there is<strong> the radical reform of the retirement system, <\/strong>implemented by Gherard Schr\u00f6der<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0<em>&#8220;This reform has slown down pensions&#8221;<\/em>, says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franceinter.fr\/emissions\/grand-angle\/grand-angle-29-juin-2017\">France Inter<\/a>, but the problem is most of all the<strong> employement insecurity<\/strong>: more and more unemployement periods, &#8220;small&#8221; jobs, small wages&#8230; which naturally leads to lower pensions.<\/p>\n<p>As the September federal elections approach, this issue will be one of the major thematics of this political campaign. Martin Schulz, the social-democrat candidate, proposes for instance to set up<strong> a &#8220;solidarity retirement&#8221; in order to help the weakest
