[\u2026] <strong>I feel good about where I am in life, and I bet you do, too.<\/strong> So instead of just accepting and perpetuating the stereotypes or apologizing for our age \u2013 or denying it- let\u2019s own our age and make the most of it, shall we?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/how-old-is-old-ask-millennials\/\"><em>Read more: How old is old? Ask Millennials<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Make no mistake about it: America is aging<\/h2>\n<p>This is the transformational issue of our time. Its impact on the economy, jobs, education, culture and communities is pervasive. Just as the birth of the baby boom generation redefined American life in the 1950s, \u201860s, and \u201870s, the aging of the boomers will reshape the way we live and work in the 2010s, \u201820s, \u201830s.<\/p>\n<p>Corporations, entrepreneurs, and small businesses are finally beginning to view the aging population as an opportunity \u2013 a growing market for goods and services, a pool of untapped talent and resources, and a driving force behind economic and social innovation \u2013 instead of an unaffordable cost and financial burden.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-28736 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Disrupt-Aging-Book-from-Jo-Ann-Jenkins-198x300.jpg\" alt=\"Disrupt Aging Book from Jo Ann Jenkins\" width=\"154\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Disrupt-Aging-Book-from-Jo-Ann-Jenkins-198x300.jpg 198w, https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Disrupt-Aging-Book-from-Jo-Ann-Jenkins.jpg 329w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 154px) 100vw, 154px\" \/>Instead of merely accepting a gradual decline as inevitable, we began to focus on how to delay that decline through prevention, lifestyle changes, and health improvements aimed at pushing back the onset of morbidity. \u00a0\u00a0As a result, most people today live longer and better than ever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yet, many of our outdated beliefs and attitudes about aging have not changed.<\/strong>\u00a0 In fact, ageism is one of the last frontiers of discrimination. We don\u2019t accept discrimination for race, gender, sexual preference, or financial status, but we allow ageist thinking to go on for people fifty and older. When are we going to stop that?<\/p>\n<p><em>Part of disrupting aging is fighting through these barriers, changing institutions that get in our way, and innovating new solutions so we can choose the way we want to live and age.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Disrupting aging is not just about people fifty and older; it affects people of all generations<\/h2>\n<p>I truly believe that age and experience can expand life\u2019s possibilities for every member of society.
