Determined to spread Christmas cheer, a 94-year-old man has raised hundreds of pounds for Alzheimer\u2019s<\/a> Research UK by dressing up as Father Christmas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A grandfather who wants to make people smile over Christmas time<\/h2>\n

Stanley Bennett<\/strong>, who previously raised over money\u00a0by dressing up as the Easter Bunny<\/strong>, took to his local supermarket dressed as Father Christmas<\/strong> in the hope of raising money and spreading Christmas cheer.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0was inspired to put a smile on people\u2019s faces this Christmas.\u00a0Through his fundraising, Mr Bennett hopes to bring the \u201cwonderful\u201d care homes, including Stanley Wilson Lodge<\/strong> where he lives, to the public\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI kept reading articles that suggested the quality of care in homes is always very poor and life is over once you\u2019re there (…) b<\/em>ut I could not fault the help my wife received, and I\u2019ve been given a new lease of life while living there. And now I\u2019m giving something back.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Raise money\u00a0for Alzheimer\u2019s Research UK<\/h2>\n

Mr Bennett\u2019s wife passed away in September 2014, having been diagnosed with vascular dementia<\/strong> ten years earlier. He moved\u00a0with her to Stanley Wilson Lodge so that he could see her every day and says he has had a great experience there over the past few years.<\/p>\n

His granddaughter said: \u201cMy nan was a tiny, feisty, Scottish lady. In my grandparents\u2019 relationship, she would always take the lead (…) when my grandmother died, instead of sitting in the care home my gramps decided to make the most of life, something which I am so proud of him for. He\u2019s very determined to raise money to help dementia research.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Mr Bennett, who is described as \u201clarge than life\u201d and very active despite requiring a frame for walking, added: \u201cI want to get out there and spread the word about both Alzheimer\u2019s Research UK\u2019s ground-breaking work, the wonderful care home I live in and most of all I want to make people smile over Christmas time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
