But thanks to research, knowledge of the disease has expanded substantially and\u00a0there has been significant progress in the care provided to those affected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Not a day goes by that a researcher doesn&#8217;t come up with\u00a0a new (and sometimes eccentric) approach to stalling the disease. But those studies are only just getting off the ground, and to this day, no treatment can fully <strong>cure Alzheimer&#8217;s disease<\/strong> and related disorders.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/alzheimers-discover-the-benefits-of-the-mediterranean-diet\/3128166\">Read more :\u00a0Alzheimer\u2019s : discover the benefits of the Mediterranean diet<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Overview of support schemes for Alzheimer&#8217;s patients and their caregivers<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several schemes exist to support those suffering from Alzheimer&#8217;s and their caregivers, whether through diagnosis,<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-28287 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Alzheimers-disease-head.jpg\" alt=\"Alzheimer's disease and related disorders\" width=\"323\" height=\"457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Alzheimers-disease-head.jpg 452w, https:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Alzheimers-disease-head-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/> structuring support, or coming up with new accommodation solutions ; this new thought process developed alongside the Silver economy in Europe and beyond, most noticeably in France, and has already borne fruits\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Memory evaluation tests<\/strong>\u00a0are the most routinely used method\u00a0of diagnosing Alzheimer&#8217;s at an early stage for better care.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adult day\u00a0centres<\/strong> provide temporary accommodation to patients ; they support caregivers through respite platforms and favour an ageing-in-place approach.<\/li>\n<li>Long-term care facilities provide patients with permanent accommodation and medical supervision.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the US : Alzheimer\u2019s special care units (SCU\u2019s)<\/strong> are memory units located in a residential care facility. Patients typically share an entire floor or wing of the facility, and receive assistance from trained and specialised staff.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>In France : the MAIA<\/strong> (Home for the Autonomy and Integration of Alzheimer&#8217;s Patients) are structures which plan and coordinate care through tailored home care plans and provide support, respite and informations to friends, family members and caregivers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Numerous associations also take actions to improve the lives of those with Alzheimer&#8217;s and their family caregivers ; French association France Alzheimer, for example, organises &#8220;memory caf\u00e9s&#8221;, planned outings, caregiver training sessions, support groups, and even thermal therapies.<\/p>\n<h2>Non-pharmacological therapies<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"Polypharmacy and Iatrogenesis: elderly people and their medication\" href=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/polypharmacy-and-iatrogenesis-elderly-people-and-their-medication\/3126640\">Non-pharmacological<\/a> therapies stimulate patients&#8217; cognitive and emotional faculties ; they also aim at assuaging the anxiety generated by certain situations, and make verbal and nonverbal communication easier for friends, family members and\/or caregivers.<\/p>\n<p>The most famous non-pharmacological therapies include art therapy, music therapy, therapeutic gardens, , pet therapy, autobiographical workshops, sophrology&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4>Focus on Snoezelen<\/h4>\n<p>The word &#8220;snoezelen&#8221; derives from the Dutch &#8220;snuffelen&#8221; (smell) and &#8220;doezelen&#8221; (doze). Snoezelen-based therapy uses many different sensory stimulation strategies, with one aim : stimulating individuals in\u00a0a dedicated location, a &#8220;safe place&#8221; where they can relax.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Technical solutions to support people with Alzheimer&#8217;s and their caregivers<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Geo-tracking, video monitoring, remote monitoring, smart pill dispenser with\u00a0reminders, therapeutic robots&#8230; The Silver economy gives birth to an endless string of innovations and solutions to support those with Alzheimer&#8217;s and their caregivers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Focus on geo-tracking<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Geo-tracking devices<\/strong> (wandering-prevention bracelets, boxes or <a title=\"Weenect Silver: a GPS beacon for the elderly \" href=\"http:\/\/www.silvereco.org\/en\/weenect-silver-a-gps-beacon-for-the-elderly\/3126908\">GPS beacons<\/a>, connected devices&#8230;) allow caregivers to locate and find someone quickly. They&#8217;ve been wrongly compared to prisoners&#8217; monitoring bracelets, as they allow affected people to roam freely without getting lost and suffering the grave psychological consequences of prolonged\u00a0wandering.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Focus on video monitoring<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This technology relies on a behaviour analysis software coupled with video sensors.
