The 3rd annual COCIR eHealth Summit took place during the European Commission’s European Summit on Digital Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing (5-8 Dec 2016, Brussels), in partnership with the European Association Working for Carers and the International Foundation for Integrated Care.
Health at a Glance: Europe 2016 report was published in November 2016 by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Commission. This publication presents the most recent trends on health and health systems across the 28 EU member states.
Governments need to respond to rising needs for long-term care, especially regarding reducing premature deaths, reducing tobacco and alcohol use, tackling obesity and improving quality of acute and chronic care.
Health at a Glance: Europe 2016, European Commission/OECD joint report shows that policies that aim at promoting good health and preventing diseases as well as reduce healthcare inequalities between EU members.
French e-health start-up Withings announced that it would soon be bought by Finnish company Nokia, noting that “joining forces Nokia will allow Withings to assert its position on the fast-growing global e-health market.”
The acquisition is a means to one end: allowing Withings to become the e-health global leader.

Japan still has the oldest population in the world: 25% of Japanese people are indeed over 65. In that regard, following a partnership between Apple, IBM and Japan Post Group, 5 millions of Japanese seniors should be equipped with iPad tablets by 2020.
Despite Google’s world-class reputation and their recent investments in eHealth, the Google Glasses were far from being as successful as the group had hoped. Indeed, the general public seemed skeptical about its utility and design, which they qualified as “too futuristic”. Consequently, the group decided to put a temporary end to the production and selling of the product. Nevertheless, they haven’t given up: they recently signed a partnership with the Italian company Luxottica, in order to change the look of the Google Glasses. The Exhibition for a Healthy and Independent living (“Salons Santé Autonomie”) will take place on May, 19 – 21, at Paris Expo – Porte de Versailles. Organized by PG Promotion –UBM on behalf of the FHF (French Hospital Federation), this exhibition is the main business meeting for health professionals. It covers healthcare and social welfare, and since 2013, other similar events have joined the exhibition: HospitalExpo, GerontHandicapExpo and Health-ITExpo.

FICHe (“Future Internet Challenge eHealth”) is a European program that challenges SMEs and start-ups to develop and imagine e-health applications using FIWARE technology.
